Michael Irvin was elected to the Professional Football Hall of Fame today. He along with former running back Thurman Thomas, Bruce Matthews, Roger Wehrli, Charlie Sanders and Gene Hickerson were also elected to the Hall of Fame. Former NFL Commish Paul Tagliabue did not make the ballot. He didn't even make it through the first round of voting!! If I were a hall of fame voter, I would have surely voted him in, even though the NFL didn't quite do that good under him. This was the third time that Irvin could have been elected and he was. Irvin's vote into the Hall was questionable because of his past. He was arrested on drug charges twice. The first time, he pleaded no contest and the second time, the charges were dropped. But, as Troy Aikman said, drug charges are not part of the criteria to get into Canton, Ohio's famous building. The new Hall of Fame members will be officially inducted the weekend of August 4-5. During that weekend, a great preseason game will be played, with the Steelers playing against the Siants. |
